FPC FIELD TESTING

FPC has been independently tested at some of the world’s most prestigious diesel fuel testing facilities. While this provides scientific evidence of the benefits provided by this diesel fuel additive, Cost Effective Maintenance continues to provide confidence to our customers by conducting on-site fuel efficiency and emission testing to further quantify the benefits of FPC.

International Engineering Test Procedures Employed by Fuel Technology

  • Specific Fuel Consumption measures the mass of fuel consumed for work done. Calibrated meters record data such as litres of fuel used.
Fuel temperature at each meter, together with recorded density, is used to calculate the mass of fuel consumed. Work done is measured by either hp or kW’s produced, or tonnes moved over a measured distance.
  • Carbon Mass Balance (CMB) is a test procedure derived from the Australian Standard AS2077 used to determine fuel consumption and measures the mass of carbon exiting the exhaust. Carbon exiting the exhaust in the form of CO, CO2, and HC must equal the amount of carbon entering the engine in the form of fuel. CMB is a static test whereby a probe is inserted into the centre of an exhaust gas stream and the engine is loaded or run at high idle. Results are displayed as the flow rate of carbon in grams per second.
  • Smoke Opacity Tests These tests provide an internationally accepted method of measuring exhaust smoke and can be conducted independently of or in conjunction with CMB testing.
  • Diesel Particulate Tests These tests measure the diesel particulates exiting the exhaust and are conducted under NSW Mines Department Mining Design Guideline 29 or WA Mines and Petroleum Trans-Stall test procedures providing further evidence of FPC’s efficiency. These tests can be conducted independently or in conjunction with CMB testing.

At Cost Effective Maintenance, we have been conducting these tests for more than thirty years, and use state-of-the-art test equipment best practice processes. To identify the efficiencies provided by the use of FPC on your equipment, the tests are undertaken in conditions reflecting, as closely as possible, the loads and conditions under which your equipment operates.
