Description
XTroll Chassis Guard is a spray-on rust protection for 4WD underbodies that stops and prevents rust from salt water, sand and road grime. It dries to a clear, hard, long-lasting film that creates an impervious barrier, so salt and sand wash off with a hose. One litre covers most 4WD underbodies (two for larger or heavily corroded vehicles, up to 25 m² on clean surfaces). It suits new and older vehicles and is Australian made.
Beach driving, creek crossings and salted roads attack a 4WD from underneath. Salt water sits in seams and chassis rails and rust starts long before you see it. The XTroll Chassis Guard rust protection spray puts a barrier between your steel and the salt. Because it is sprayed on, it reaches the underbody surfaces a brush can’t.
Application is simple. Wash and degrease the underbody, let it dry, and spray evenly across every surface. In addition, a second coat 4–6 hours after the first builds a thicker film. It dries in 6–12 hours per coat; allow 7 days before heavy salt-water exposure. As a result, the film hardens into a clear, durable coating that can last around 12 months between applications.
Aftercare is easier too. Because the XTroll Chassis Guard rust protection spray repels salt and sand, a plain water hose-off after the beach is all it needs — no degreasers or detergents, which would weaken the barrier. It also pairs with XTroll Rust Conqueror: treat any existing rust with Rust Conqueror first, then seal the whole underbody with Chassis Guard.

Chassis Guard preparation
Chassis Guard can be applied directly to the underbody of your 4WD.
Best practice:
- Apply Chassis Guard to a clean surface.
- Give the underbody a detergent-based wash, followed by a degrease and water wash-down.
- Once dry, apply Chassis Guard.
- Allow 7 days drying time before exposing it to a heavy salt-water environment.
A grime-free surface gives Chassis Guard much better adhesion, so it may only need reapplying every 12 months.
XTroll Chassis Guard — how to apply

- Clean up: White Spirits.
How to apply: spray evenly across all underbody surfaces. When possible, apply a second coat 4–6 hours after the first.
Avoid overspray so as not to damage paintwork — under-chassis application only. Avoid all sensors and wiring connectors.
XTroll Chassis Guard after-beach maintenance
After care: the best thing about Chassis Guard is how easy it is to wash away the salt and sand after hitting the beach. The barrier created by Chassis Guard will only require a water wash-down to remove any remaining salt water and sand — a water hose-off is sufficient.
When washing the vehicle after the beach, do not apply the following to the underside, as this will make the Chassis Guard less effective:
- Degreasers
- Detergents or heavy solvents
- Detergent and pre-soak cleaners
Chassis Guard can be reapplied if required.

This sprays on easily and covers well. I’ve used it on my HJ61 and it’s not washed off, so doing its job. I’ve also used it on the exhibits at the Avondale Agricultural Machinery Museum where we have lots of very old unpainted farming and workshop equipment. It’s under cover but the old bare steel looks flat and dusty. Now I’ve sprayed XTROLL Chassis Guard, the exhibits pop and stand out much better.

Bought this product a couple months back and only just gotten around to applying it this week. Very simple to apply as you would expect from a spray on product. From the moment you spray it on, she chassis looks exceptional. Gives your diffs and chassis that fresh new wet shiny look but as stated in products description, dries hard. Always been happy with all my Cost Effective products and this one is no exception. Will see how it lasts over the next 12 months.
1bottle covered a whole 105 Series Landcruiser with a little left over, and I wasn’t exactly sparing when applying.
Only feedback for production, when applying, the spray mechanism can leak a little making trigger and bottle difficult to hold, hopefully you can find a way to get a better seal for future products.

I have only started using this product on my Amarok and our caravan, it goes on easily and brings up black painted areas on the Amarok making it look like new. Hopefully it is long lasting on the rusty areas. I have not added paint over the rusty areas that have been treated at this stage, but will have to, to cover the rusty marks.
