What independent testing has been conducted?

The Fuel Performance Catalyst has undergone rigorous testing in some of the world’s leading laboratories including the prestigious Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas and, more recently, through a comprehensive four-year study undertaken at the University of Western Australia’s Centre for Energy, and at CAD Railway Industries in Quebec Canada. Many other independent tests have quantified the benefits provided by FPC.

What are FPC applications?

FPC may be used in any liquid hydrocarbon fuel. Three grades of FPC applications are available. Dosing ratios of 1:1600, 1:5000 and 1:10,000 are supplied depending on a customer’s fuel usage. Where bulk storage fuel is to be treated,  Cost Effective Maintenance engineers can design and supply dosing systems to accurately treat fuel automatically either at the time of fuel delivery or at time of equipment refueling.

Will FPC change fuel specifications?

At recommended treatment ratios, independent tests have concluded that FPC does not change fuel specifications.

Will FPC harm engines?

FPC will not harm engine components. In fact, testing has shown that FPC improves combustion to the point where abrasive hard carbon build-up is virtually eliminated, significantly reducing engine wear related to hard carbon build-up (i.e. rings, injectors, valves and liners etc.).

Can FPC be used in the modern Common Rail Fuel System?

FPC does not change fuel specifications and the active ingredient is only required in minute levels to assist during the combustion phase. In addition, engine manufacturers install 2-5-micron fuel filters whereas FPC is filtered to <1 micron at the time of production. Therefore, FPC is 100% safe to use in common rail fuel systems and is widely used in modern engines throughout the world.

Will contaminants decrease in the engine oil if I use FPC?

Studies conducted by engine manufacturers show that as soot in oil acts as an abrasive, reducing soot content decreases wear metal content in the oil.

As FPC promotes a more complete combustion, soot contamination is greatly reduced, increasing oil and engine life.

Will engine manufacturers void my engine warranty if I use FPC?

Engine manufacturers will not void an engine warranty if FPC is used. Written verification of this from most engine manufacturers is held on file by Fuel Technology and is available upon request.

Can FPC be used with Biodiesel?

Consensus among many engine manufacturers is that the use of Biodiesel will result in a power and fuel efficiency loss. FPC used in biodiesel will provide increased power and fuel efficiencies, negating these losses.

Will FPC affect peak engine pressure and temperature?

The combustion process in diesel engines consists of two phases: pre-mixed combustion phase and diffusion controlled combustion phase. The fuel injected into the engine evaporates and pre-mixes with air during the ignition delay period and then the air/fuel mixture ignites and burns where the peak combustion pressure usually occurs. The use of FPC has very little effect on the peak pressure of the engine. In fact, the working mechanisms of the catalyst in the combustion process of diesel is that it reduces the combustion duration and enhances the heat release rate in the diffusion controlled phase, resulting in higher average pressure and combustion temperature and therefore higher fuel combustion efficiency and lower exhaust emissions.

Do I need to mechanically mix FPC with my fuel?

The carrier for FPC will readily mix in all liquid hydrocarbon fuels. It is not necessary to mechanically mix FPC with petrol, diesel and lighter fuel oils. However, to ensure quicker dispersion, FPC can be added while refueling equipment or replenishing storage tanks.

What happens if fuel is over-treated or under-treated with FPC?

Treatment at less than the manufacturer’s recommended ratio can reduce the effectiveness of FPC and prevent the user from realising the full benefit from the product. Although over-treatment will have no detrimental effect, significant research has concluded that the recommended treatment ratio will provide the best economical return.

Will FPC prevent microbial activity in fuel?

FPC, when used on a regular basis, will prevent fungal bacterial growths that can propagate in the water/fuel interface in bulk storage tanks.
